Hannah Trickett is the owner and creator of Studio Trickett, a multi-disciplinary studio that focuses on ceramics, sculpture, and design (research, consultancy, and content).
At University, Hannah trained in ceramics and design theory in Decorative Arts. She began working at Fired Earth, a design showroom in South Kensington, London, specialising in handcrafted tiles, paint and beautifully made bathroom and kitchens. It was then that she trained to be an interior designer. Hannah worked with CP Hart, a luxury residential design company, and Day True, a bespoke interior design studio.
After health concerns (hydrocephalus), a need to work at her own pace, Hannah discovered her love for design writing. Blogging online and through social media became an escape, as well as a way to continue to share a passion for design with others. She launched “Hannah in the house,” a double-meaning to address both her love of interiors and that she was largely house-bound. Later, the blog was relaunched as Hannahtrickett.com. Writing for herself and working with brands opened up doors for researching an array of incredible design.
After spending much time flying from London to Copenhagen, Hannah made the bold move with her boyfriend to see what living in Denmark would be like (and she’s still there!). This led to so many wonderful connections to the Danish design world, as well as branching out to the Nordic countries.
The social media world eventually became a bit uncomfortable, and Hannah realized it was time for a break. These days, she is renovating a house on the outskirts of the city and reconnecting with her ceramic passion from her university days. She still likes to mix in a few design festivals here and there.
About her work in ceramics, which has developed more seriously over the last six years, Hannah says, “Ceramics never left me. I have been working with clay over the years but never let myself think that I could pursue it in a professional capacity, almost like I needed permission. I know ceramics are utterly part of my soul. I need to create and work with clay. I draw inspiration from process, craft, introspection, and appreciation of form.”
Hannah has a varied career but with the red thread of craftsmanship and design. You can find her in her basement pottery studio, living close to the city of Copenhagen and the beach, thrilled to be doing – and sharing – the design she loves.
